1.research paper

I have just decided to continue this bloging project that ı have started last term and I'm writing my first post this semester about research paper. First of all I'd like to say that I'm happy that we have more than 2 options and also we have a free option that we can write our question. I thought about the options and first decided to writing about domestic violance in Turkey would be sensible but than honour killings in Turkey sounded more appealing to me and finally I will be writing about ths issue because I think it is a big problem in our country that cannot be prevented.I thought that using a film about honour killings would be a good idea to start the argument. So, I guess I should start searching immediately after I write this post because I have just 10 days for the annotated bibliography.

11.What I learned from Eng101

It was a hard semester for me because I had difficulties in adopting myself to the first year of the university after a year of studying like a horce race as the system requires. Anyway, it was great to learn about blogging, I had many hours thinking what to write, and to have essay writing and presentation experience. The tips I learned on this course about academic essay writing and referencing also helped me in other courses. I started looking at gender issues from a different perspective. In short, I am happy to be taking this course and I promise myself to try harder to catch up with the course work for the next semester.

10. Final exam

Though I don't want to talk about the final exam that was a nightmare for me, I am writing about it. I am really aware that it was stupid of me to not to manage the time. I started taking notes after I thought for a while about the option I wrote. End the last seen I remember was that I was taking notes when there were 20 minutes left. Then I was panicked trying to organize my notes and result was a half essay with a paper full of notes in my hand. I wish I could take the exam again but I know it's impossible so I want to end with a quote.
"Never a mistake, always a lesson.."

9. The man who was almost a man

The short story 'The man who was almost a man' is about a boy,Dave, who is between being a man and being a teenage boy. While I was reading the story I always wondered what was going to happen next because the title was very interesting for me. I was excited while I was reading about the confessions and at the end I really agree that Dave is not a man but almost a man. He was brave enough to buy a gun but after he shot Jenny he acted like a little boy and this proved that he was not a man yet.
After reading this short story I realized that these men who are almost a men are all around us. A huge number of the boys are trying to act like a man ;but not in good aspects such as being gentle and using their minds instead of their physical strength. I have been reading news about boys racketeering or fighting for nothing in high schools. I think the rise in the number of Tv series showing mafia as hero is is one of the main reasons that are creating these men who are almost men..

8. V for Vendetta

The film 'V for Vendetta' is about a man trying to make the citizens more aware of what is going around. V's aim is to complete the plan of Guy Fawkes who lived in England in 1600s. Guy Fawkes was a member of a group of 8 people, the Gunpowder Plot. The Gunpowder Plot attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 but their plan failed as they were caught on November,5. I was surprised when I learned that people are still celebrating it on the night of November,4. This day is known as Guy Fawkes Night and people wear Guy Fawkes masks and they set off firework.
The word "Vendetta" refers to taking revenge. Actually I don't know the exact meaning of the word in English but it is called 'kan davası' in Turkish. I found the name of the film very effective because it gives us a clue about the film.
The main message of the film is that the citizens should not be afraid of the government, but the government should be afraid of the citizens because if people come together and show their reactions they can change the system.
The film is about England in near future so this film may be a prediction made for the near future. I have no idea if things like in this film can happen but I really wonder..

7. Final Presentation

We presented 'V for Vendetta' in our final presentation. Actually I had watched this film before but when I was searching about the film for the presentation, I realised that it was impossible to get the message of the film without having any idea about Guy Fawkes. I think it is funny that I liked the film when I watched it 2 years ago. These presentations helped me look from a different perspective and now I think from watching a film or reading a short story without thinking on it, we just have an idea about the material but we can't understand the real message on the background. I also saw that making eye contact and speaking fluently are the keys to make a good presentation.

6. Practice presentation

First of all, I want to say that I was really nervous before the presentation because it was the first time that I was presenting in English. While presenting I confused most of the things and I could not manage what to say. Our presentation was about 'Marked Woman' and I really worked on the text but I guess I should have practiced orally before the presentation. Practice presentation helped me understand that it is important to get prepared before. What I learned from our presentation and from the others is that using visual meterials is a very effective way to take audience's attention and it is very important to use comprehensive words.
